Cultural cooperation questions between Azerbaijan Republic and Latvia were discussed in Riga
In April, 26, there was a meeting between Latvian Minister of Culture, Dace Melbarde, and Azerbaijan Ambassador to this country, Javanshir Akhundov.
During this meeting the ambassador informed the minister about Latvian top- level delegations’ recent visits to Azerbaijan. It was noted that two former Latvian presidents: Vaira Vike-Freiberga and Valdis Zatlers, as well as the current president of Latvia Raimonds Veyonis took a part in the 5th Global Baku Forum.
J.Akhundov noted that the embassy is planning to host an event to present cultural heritage and touristic potential of Azerbaijan Republic.
Dace Melbarde emphasized the importance of cultural exchange intensification and touristic contacts expansion between Latvia and Azerbaijan. She stressed that art groups’ participation in ongoing festivals and celebrations of both countries will also contribute to a further expansion of cultural cooperation between Latvia and Azerbaijan.
The Minister invited Azerbaijan side to take a part in “Baltika” festival which will be held as part as a celebration of 100 years of Latvia in 2018.
The Ambassador of Azerbaijan informed about the annual Gabalinskiy music festival which is held under Heidar Aliyev Foundation initiative, and wished Latvian collectives to broaden their participation in cultural events of our country.
In the end of the meeting the Minister of Culture noted that she would like to visit Azerbaijan and, together with an ancient cultural heritage she would like to see contemporary patterns, widely known Zahi Hadid architectural work – building of Centre of Heidar Aliyev in particular.
