Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan presented copies of letters of credence to MFA of Latvia.

 On April 20, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan Javanshir Akhundov presented copies of letters of credence to Minister of Foreign Affairs of this country Edgars Rinkevics.

After the official ceremony head of MFA of Latvia E.Rinkevics congratulated Ambassador on his appointment to this post and wished success in realizing diplomatic mission.

During the meeting opinion exchange about current condition and prospects for development took place, cooperation between both countries both on a bilateral and multilateral level, within international organizations. The need to expand trade and economic relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia was stressed. The preparatory work for the upcoming  Azerbaijani-Latvian business forum in Baku this autumn was noted.

The parties stressed the importance of mutual visits for further development of bilateral cooperation. Preparations for the forthcoming visit of the Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia Inara Murniece and Mayor of Riga Nil Ushakov in Azerbaijan were discussed.

Ambassador of Azerbaijan Javanshir Akhundov told about the events that took place in early April in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.

E.Rinkevics stressed that Latvia's position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains unchanged.  Latvia supports territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and supports the resolution of the conflict within the norms and principles of international law. Ambassador Javanshir Akhundov brought to attention the importance of strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia in the cultural sphere, noting in particular the importance of the Days of Culture of Azerbaijan in Latvia.

Latvian Foreign Minister E.Rinkevics underlined activity of Azerbaijani Diaspora and its role in social and economic life of the country.

Ambassador Javanshir Akhundov noted that during his diplomatic mission will make every effort to further strengthen the relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia in the political, economic and cultural spheres.
